🛒 PayPal Launches ‘Pay with Crypto’: PayPal’s new Pay with Crypto product will allow 30 million US merchants to accept 100+ cryptocurrencies and instantly receive USD. The introductory transaction rate of 0.99% reduces transaction costs by up to 90% in comparison to international fees, with the option to settle in PYUSD and grow funds by 4% annually when held in PayPal.

⚖️ SEC Permits New ETP Rules: The SEC announced the approval of in-kind creations and redemptions of crypto exchange-traded products (ETP) on Wednesday. This allows investors who invest in approved crypto ETFs to redeem their shares for the underlying asset (such as BTC or ETH) instead of cash, while the ETPs themselves can now also be created with crypto. This increases efficiency, reduces selling pressure on the market, and may help reduce transaction costs.

✍️ White House Releases Crypto Report: A 168-page report containing recommendations for establishing a regulatory framework for crypto was released by the White House this week. The report, part of President Trump’s Executive Order issued in January, made recommendations related to banking, payments, stablecoins, compliance, and taxes to encourage regulation that boosts confidence across the board and embraces innovation.

🏦 PNC Bank Partners with Coinbase: PNC Bank, one of the leading US banks, announced they will “develop an initial offering that will allow clients to buy, hold and sell cryptocurrencies” in partnership with Coinbase. PNC Bank will also provide its banking services to Coinbase, ensuring seamless on-ramp and off-ramp access for Coinbase clients.

💵 JPMorgan Chase Exploring Crypto-secured Loans: JPMorgan Chase customers may be able to borrow against their crypto holdings and crypto ETFs as early as next year, according to the Financial Times. The product would require regulatory approval. Full details of the product have not yet been released.

✍️ BitGo Files for US IPO: BitGo, one of the largest crypto custody providers, is the latest crypto company to file for an IPO in the US. In 2023, the company raised $100 million at a $1.75 billion valuation.

⚖️ US Crypto Week Legislation: It was a landmark week for crypto legislation in the US, with ‘Crypto Week’ resulting in the House of Representatives passing two key bills: the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act. The GENIUS Act sets out stablecoin-related provisions, while the CLARITY Act functions as a broader cryptocurrency framework. A third bill, the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act, was also added and passed following a group of Republicans flipping sides over the lack of provisions banning CBDCs in the CLARITY Act, which the third bill now addresses separately. The three bills are expected to be signed into law by President Trump today.

📈 $4 Trillion Crypto Market Cap: The crypto market crossed the $4 trillion mark for the very first time on Thursday. The market first crossed $3 trillion in November 2021 amidst pandemic-fuelled interest and the peak of the NFT market. Bitcoin maintains about 60% dominance, with Ethereum at 11% at the time of writing. Bitcoin’s market cap also surpassed $2.4 trillion mid-week, pipping Amazon to make it the world’s fifth-largest asset.

💸 BTC ETF Inflows Surge: Over $2.7 billion in BTC ETF inflows were recorded last week (7-11 July), making it the third-largest week of inflows this year, despite the rising price of BTC. For the first time, over $1 billion in net inflows took place on back-to-back days: 10 and 11 July. It marks the fifth consecutive week of net positive inflows into BTC ETFs, with over $2 billion already recorded this week (14-17 July) and one day left.

💸 Bitcoin Hits New All-time High: Bitcoin has surged 6% in the last 24 hours to set a new all-time high of over US$118,000. This move more than doubles its value from this time last year, with a 40% increase in the last 90 days alone.

✍️ Emirates Signs MoU with Crypto.com: Emirates have signed a memorandum of understanding with Crypto.com to explore crypto payments for flights with Crypto.com Pay, with an integration expected next year. Additionally, the airline will explore promotional campaigns to create awareness and encourage adoption of the new feature.

💭 Proposed Ethereum Gas Cap: Vitalik Buterin co-authored the EIP-7983 proposal that aims to introduce a gas cap on transactions to “split large transactions into smaller chunks” and “reduce the risk of DoS attacks caused by excessively high-gas transactions”. Ethereum currently has a per-block gas limit of approximately 36 million, but no limit on individual transactions. The proposed gas limit per transaction is approximately 16.77 million.

✍️ Big Beautiful Bill Passes: Trump’s controversial ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ passed Congress yesterday, with the sprawling domestic policy bill set to be signed into law by the president today. The bill encompasses cuts to taxes, healthcare, food benefits, renewable energy, and more, while allocating billions of dollars for defence and immigration enforcement. The same day, US Senator Cynthia Lummis unveiled a draft bill for an exemption of capital gains of $300 or less on crypto transactions, up to $5,000 annually.

⚖️ “Crypto Week” for US Legislation: It was announced that 14-18 July will be “Crypto Week” in the US Republican House, which will see the House consider three key pieces of crypto legislation: the CLARITY Act, Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act, and GENIUS Act. The announcement comes after Trump stated he wants the GENIUS Act passed “lightning fast” last month. Congress will break for a month in August.

🔗 XRPL EVM Sidechain Launches: Ripple’s XRPL EVM Sidechain went live this week, expanding Ethereum compatibility with Ripple. The sidechain enables EVM smart contracts to be deployed and interacted with, alongside the use of XRP as the gas token. Wallets, infrastructure providers, and dapps are expected to join progressively.

🦄 Unicorn Status for Polymarket: Polymarket, the world’s biggest prediction market, is close to a $200 million funding round, valuing the company at more than $1 billion (making it a “unicorn”), an anonymous source told The Information this week. The round is set to be lead by Founders Fund, a venture capital firm started by PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel.

⚖️ Senate Passes GENIUS Act Bill: The US Senate passed the bill on Tuesday with a 68-30 vote. The bill now heads to the House, where it is expected to take some reconciling with the STABLE Act bill proposed by the House before being enacted into law.

💵 JPMorgan Piloting Deposit Token: America’s biggest bank is piloting its deposit token, JPMD, on Base. This will operate within the traditional banking framework and allow Coinbase’s institutional clients to access JPMD for transactions following the pilot.

📉 Israel-Iran Tensions Escalate: Israeli strikes on Iran triggered a broad crypto sell-off, with Bitcoin down ~7% over two days. Crude oil jumped around 10%, with investors once again turning to safe-haven assets like gold.

📈 Ether Derivatives Surge: Tuesday saw ETH derivatives record over $110 billion volume in a single day, beating out Bitcoin at $85 billion. This represented a 38% increase over the previous day, with 16 consecutive days of net postive inflows into ETH ETFs also recorded.

🏦 Deutsche Bank Exploring Stablecoins: The German bank is the latest traditional company to explore the use of stablecoins. The options being considered include issuing their own token or collaborating on an industrywide initiative.
